Toshiba satellite problem

Hello all. I am hoping someone can help me with this problem.

Yesterday I accidently spilt a glass of water on my laptop and my screen went black after a minute or two. I could still see the icons(barely) and could still move my mouse. I had to move the laptop around under my room light to see the icons, that's how dark the screen was. So I tried it again this morning and now it is just making a beeping sound as soon as I turn it on and won't even go the icon screen. It is completely black.

What could possibly be causing this? The beeping sound and the dark screen.

I have a Toshiba satelitte that runs XP.

Any help that anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Toshiba satellite problem

Try an external monitor to see if the backlight is the only problem.

On an external monitor, it will show me the Toshiba page that comes up at the beginning, then the windows xp page loading, crystal clear... but then it goes black when the icon page comes up on my laptop(where I can barely see it on my laptop). Is there some way I may have reduced the brightness of the screen?

Re: Toshiba satellite problem

It sounds like a driver issue. When Windows loads the video driver, it turns off the backlight.

You can continue using the external by enabling both monitors to come on at boot in the BIOS (press F1 or Shift+F1 at the Toshibs logo). You can also try enabling it in Windows, but this will be more difficult).

You might also be able to swap monitors by pressing the monitor swap button which is an Fn+Function key combo. You will have to check in the manual which it is.
