Question acer 3100 usb issue

TIA.
My acer aspire 3100 recently stopped recognizing usb 2.0 devices. Transfers at 1.1 are ok.

With shame, addmission must be made that this happened the week windows did the before tuesday curser issue big fix, and i uninstalled acer software and installed 2 new gigs of ram. In between everything was ok. Somewhere after I was done (a week) I hooked up my mp3 and no can do! Drivers seem to be right according to my tech friend. And to add gas to the fire, windows reg tuesday fix was also installed.

More digging deeper hole; I was using a lapcooler, a usb splitter and performing humongous transfers all along. I never registered my machine nor had backup media to do that backup. Acer provided no disks and in any case i am not convinced it is a software issue.

Are there any logical steps to pursue?

Hi David, and welcome to TSF!

The first thing I would do to rule out a Windows issue is perform a system restore to a couple days before this was a problem. Go to Start > (All) Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore. You need administrative privelages.

Re: new here please bear with me.

Thanks for your help or should i say advice? Thanks.

The problem started after MS did their big windows fix something like four weeks ago. As long as I move everything i want to save off that drive i'll be cool? Does that mean all the stuff that was on my computer that day comes back as well?

Re: new here please bear with me.

The system restore does not affect the contents of your My Documents folder or any of your files. It only restores system files such as DLL libraries, and registry keys.

If you do happen to loose an important file, it is easy to undo the restore.

Don't wait too long to do the restore. I believe it only goes back a month.
