(resolved)Question About Purchasing

I'm not sure if this is where this kind of question belongs but I didn't see anywhere else to place it. I was wondering what laptop would be appropriate. I've looked at reviews but they seem unhelpful. The computer would be used for Chess. I guess the highly calculating Chess programs like ChessBase and Fritz would require a large amount of Ram, but I'm not sure. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

Re: Question About Purchasing

hello utssb,
Folks more knowledgable than I could tell you the minimum performance specs you would need, but I got Acer Aspire 5100-3357for $654 out the door from office max,
heres the specs

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium
CPU: AMD Turion 64 MK36 (2.0 GHZ,512KB L2 cache)
Screen:15.4" WXGA LCD(16ms)
Audio: Realtek Hi Def
Video card:ATI Radeon express 1100(256MB hyper memory)
hard drive: 120GB
RAM:1GB DDR2
it also comes with bluetooth,802.11b/g wireless LAN and a super duper DVD player/burner that does multi double layer +-R and +-RW
I don't need to ,but i'm gonna upgrade the RAM just because.
the MODs here seem to hold the acers in high regard as well(check out thier sticky threads)
hope this helps , NN

Re: Question About Purchasing

Here is the thread he is talking about in post #2.

I also bought an Acer awhile back and have been very happy with it.

Check the chess program for system requirements. That should tell you how much laptop you need. Also make sure it runs on Windows Vista if the laptop you are looking at has that OS.

Aspire 5050.
The requirements for your program are not to bad. Any new computer should run it. Might want to check with Fritz about Vista.

Re: Question About Purchasing

The amounts needed to run Fritz do seem pretty humble. I checked the website and it is also Windows Vista compatible.

Thanks both of you for your help.
