Hi, I have a Sony VAIO laptop and it is pretty messed up so I want to reinstall windows or maby switch to Linux.
But my Laptop will not find the external USB DVD/CD drive on bootup to install either Linux or Windows so can someone help me please and tell me how I can setup my Laptop to boot from my external drive. Thanks |

Re: External Drive Bootup
Not all laptops will boot from an external drive. You will need to go into your BIOS and see if this an option.

Re: External Drive Bootup
Not if it doesn't support it, but this a new machine so I imagine it would. To enter the BIOS, press F2 or DEL at boot up. It should tell you which to do. You will then need to search the pages in BIOS to find the relevant one. If it supports it, you will need to set the external drive as your first boot device. The external drive must also be bootable, which means it needs a copy of the Master Boot Record on it. As your machine sounds pretty messed up, your best bet would be first to reinstall Windows on your main hard drive. You could try doing a repair install first inorder to save your existing settings.
