Toshiba Satellite

I just bought a Toshiba Satellite and it came with all these programs from Toshiba installed already. I was wondering if these are essential for the laptop to run, because if not I'll uninstall them seeing as how they start automatically and take a lot of ram.

Re: Toshiba Satellite

Mine's a Dell, and that's what I did. The only essenrial programs are those that install from the XP re-install disk, the others are optional. If you want to watch DVD's, you'll want whatever software is included to make that happen, etc. It depends on what is essential to you.

Re: Toshiba Satellite

Hi,

Most are non-essential, but those that are actually Toshiba configuration apps are generally best left alone. If you post the programs you want to remove, we can tell you if they are safe to remove.

toshiba hotkey utility
toshiba media center game console

toshiba speech system sr engine(U.S.) version 1.0
toshiba speech system tts engine(u.s.) version 1.0

Re: Toshiba Satellite

Those look all essential, I would keep them but disable them from startup. You can use this utility:
http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml

If you are running low on hard disk space, you can uninstall them later. There are not necessary:

Toshiba configfree
Toshiba controls
Toshiba game console
Toshiba registration
Toshiba software upgrades
Toshiba speech system applications
Toshiba speech system sr engine(U.S.) version 1.0
Toshiba speech system tts engine(u.s.) version 1.0
Toshiba zooming utility
touch and launch
