HP Pavilion N5412, Power
A friend brought this HP laptop for me to look at. I've repaired a few towers but not a Laptop. No power at all, LED indicators on the Laptop do not light. I got a voltage reading from the AC power lead and the indicator on that is on. I've tried to gently move the power socket but without success.
Unfortunately I can't test with Battery only because he thinks it's been run low. Any pointers? Thanks in advance. |

Hi Mike,
Welcome to the world of laptops. Basically, it sounds like the battery is dead, and the laptop is trying to run off AC power. The only problem is that it sounds like the connection between the power jack and the motherboard has been broken. If you are comfortable with opening up the laptop, you can resolder the connection if you are good at soldering.
