DVD/CD rom

Hello,

I'm hoping someone can please help me and tell me what to do to fix my problem. I recently had to restore my computer to its original state (the way it was when I first purchased it). I guess I should tell you what kind - it's a Dell Inspiron 6000 with windows XP media center, and it was purchased Nov. 2005. Anyway, I'm unable to install any software using the cd rom drive. It sounds like it tries to run, but it won't. I've tried everything I could think of. It will play a DVD movie though. Can anyone please help??

Sincerely, Melissa

Re: DVD/CD rom

have you installed the latest drivers? it could be that since you did a system restore that some of the recent drivers dissapeared :o

also, is this a dvd/cd combo drive? or are they separate entities?

Re: DVD/CD rom

Hi again,

In reply to your posting, the DVD/CD rom is one drive. I did, which I thought I did, download the required drives that were listed as urgent or recommended from this model of laptop. Maybe I'm missing something else. I retrieved the recommended downloaded drives from Dell's website. Enough said, huh? Anyway, is there another site or particular drives that you may be aware of that I need or maybe you know a website where I can check? Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks,
Melissa :o)

My System

Re: DVD/CD rom

Blow some compressed air into the rom.
Try a laser disk cleaning disk, radio shack, ect. has them.

Look in the device manager for any yellow conflicts.
control panel>system>hardware>device manager
If there is an alert next to the rom, uninstall it then reboot.

If you have restore disks and no xp disk, you might need to try the restore again.
