Re: Laptop to TV
Hi,
First, S-video only carries video, not audio. That is a common misconception. You will need a 3.5mm stereo audio to stereo RCA adapter. Second, is this an HDTV? If it is, you should not use S-video, but instead get a VGA to Component video cable. That will allow for 720p and 1080p HD resolutions.

Re: Laptop to TV
Thanks for the advice. How much do these cables usually cost? By using the VGA to component cable, will my avi movie files be HD quality on my LCD TV? Yes it is an HDTV.

Re: Laptop to TV
As long as the movie is in HD resolution, then it will be in HD. If you play a DVD on the laptop and connect the laptop to the TV, that will most likely be in HD.
If you use S-video, you will be limited to 640 x 480 (SD). If you use component video, you can get 1280 x 800, 1366 x 768, and 1920 x 1080. Make sure you choose the correct resolution when you connect the TV. What size TV is it? Do you know the resolution? Here are the cables you need: Video: http://www.beachaudio.com/product_in...oducts_id=5729 Audio: http://www.beachaudio.com/product_in...ducts_id=67373

Re: Laptop to TV
According to the manual it has tv resolutions up to 1080i, and PC resolutions up to 1360 x 768 through HDMI and VGA.
Here is the link to the TV I purchased. Perhaps you can give me some other advice as well. http://www.olevia.com/jsp/products/specs.jsp?pid=237v Meanwhile I'll see if my local radioshack has these cables. |

Re: Laptop to TV
You need 1366 x 768 resolution.
That TV has a VGA input, so you need a standard VGA cable and the audio cable I described. Radioshack will have both of those. What graphics card do you have? You will need to run it at 1360 x 768 as the site said. Some graphics cards don't support this resolution, so you migh have to get the latest graphics driver. Make sure you don't use a refresh rate higher than 60 Hz, or you will damage the TV.

Re: Laptop to TV
My graphics card is the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950. Do you kknow if my card will support that resolution???
The only refresher rate it provides is 60hz, no options to lower or higher. Last edited by Baldie559; 04-08-2007 at 09:11 AM. |

Re: Laptop to TV
What you will want to do is go here:\
Display Properites > Settings tab > Advanced... > Monitor tab Unckeck the box labeled "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display". That card supports resolutions up to 1920 x 1200, but from what I can tell it does not support 1360 x 768. Try getting the latest driver. Use this driver: http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...ional&lang=eng If that still doesn't have the resolution you want, you can use a utility called powerstrip to modify the driver and add the custom resolution you need. http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=169

Re: Laptop to TV
You will want to go to the VGA or PC input on the TV. This will select the signal coming from the PC.

Re: Laptop to TV
Hi. The Intel 950s have limited support for custom resolutions. Widescreen displays like your television should adjust or stretch the display properly for you to be able to view the image on your TV.You'll want the highest resolution without going over the TV's maximum resolution. 1024x768 is the highest standard, but isn't widescreen.

Re: Laptop to TV
Use a standard VGA to VGA cable (aka just a VGA cable). VGA is essentially the same thing as component video (although different from YPbPr), they are both RGB interfaces.
Plug one end of the cable into the TV VGA input, and the other into the laptop VGA output.

Re: Laptop to TV
The setup was perfect. I used the vga cable and the 3.5 to rca cables. When I connected my laptop to the tv, my video card gave several options for resolutions and the 1380x768 was available. The quality of my video files was perfect as well. Thanks for your help.
