reinstalling windows xp

hallo,
I have a Acer Travelmate 3000 with Windows Xp PRO installed on it. I would like to remake the partition of the HDD, format and reinstall everything, like I normally do on my desktop machines... but with this laptop I only have these recovery CDs that make me go through a process where windows it is reinstalled but I cannot modify partitions. How can I really reinstall?

Look at this site is has directions for making an XP CD from your installation. It may not apply though if you don't have an I386 folder on your hard drive or recovery CD. http://www.mechrest.com/plugins/Bart...artPEGuide.htm.

Cool

Hello Karerda:

Would you like to delete the current partition and then do a fresh install on a newly created/formatted partition?

OR...

Are you interested in creating MORE THAN ONE new partition before running the restore disks?

I would like to delete the partitions (there are 2 of 50 GB each), make two new partitions (75 / 25 GB) and install a new, fresh winXp on it...

Ok...

You should be able to do this with the WinXP install disk SETUP.
  1. Place the WinXP Install disk in the drive. If it autostarts, CLOSE IT.
  2. Restart your computer.
  3. Begin going through the clean install process. http://web.mit.edu/ist/products/winxp/advanced/reinstall-format.html
  4. When you get to this screen --> Choose Option 'D' and delete partitions

  5. Now choose option 'C' to create new partitions...You should be able to enter the size.
  6. Create your other partition.
  7. Install WinXP on the partition of choice.

OK...If I remember correctly this procedure should get you going.
