RESOLVED HP wont boot after repair
Hi,
Basically I have just repaired my HP ze5700, because the HD was shot and it needed a new heatsink and fan, now that is repaired (except DVD RW, i need to buy that later and install it), but because DVD RW doesnt work, i put it in my other laptop and installed XP then switched it back, now it wont boot past the startup screen (BIOS type) and hangs on the little white _ in the corner like its reading an ISO or something. Any ideas? Cheers Scott. |

Can you get into the BIOS? You should try disabling a feature called fast boot or quiet boot. Then, see where during the POST it gets stuck. Also, if you can get into the BIOS, try moving the CD/DVD drive to the bottom of the boot order.

Try reseting the CMOS. Unplug the laptop, and remove the battery for at least 30 mins. See if that fixes it.

The lazer is probably burnt out or dirty. You could try using a cdrom lens cleaner, a special disk that you would put a cleaning fluid on.
Is it possible to swap the working dvdrom drive into the other computer temporarily until you get windows installed. sysprep should be on your install cd. it removes all the chipset drivers from the OS so that the drive can be installed in any other computer |
