Broken inspiron 1200

I broke my sisters Dell Inspiron 1200 by accidentally whacking it backwards, and now the screen looks broken in pieces sort of and at the top left hand corner i can distinguish a little lettering at times that says something like weapo-----for the inconvenience. My first thought was just to get a new screen, but when i tried plugging it into my PC monitor it wont show up either. I have a fair amount of experience with Pc's but none with Laptop insides... any ideas, help, anything?

Make sure the screen wire isnt damaged inside, and even though you connected it to a pc, with certain video cards, you need to setup before hand.

When you plugged it into the PC monitor, did you plug the monitor first and then turn on the laptop? Try that.

Also worth a try and will only take a second. Try the Fn+F8 this toggles between external and external moniters

Made a mistake on my last comment as you can see. I meant internal and external moniters
