Question RAM upgrade causes laptop freeze when plugged in?

I recently got my laptop upgraded to a gig of RAM from 256. It still runs fine (better) but the problem is that it freezes/locks up whenever I plug in the power (After about 2 seconds). It freezes in the bios, in Windows XP and even in Linux (Mandriva 2006 powerpack or something). The only thing that could possibly be wrong with it is the RAM but this power issue has come out of the blue.
It still can still charge fine.

Its an EXCEL brand notebook. P4 ECO 636 Notebook. Model No.: GREEN736
Pentium 4 processor.

Is there an easy way to fix this that doesn't involve taking out RAM?

Sorry if someone has posted a similar problem on the forums that I have overlooked but I cant seem to find a problem remotely like mine.

It's 2x512. I have already tried to take a stick out but I can't find a screw driver that fits + its on there tight. I have just been talking to a friend on Gmail chat and we are 90% sure its RAM Timing. I think I will just get it taken back (I didn't do it myself, lazy + parents paying) and let them play with it.

Hi,

What kind of RAM did you put in? Make sure it is DDR, preferably DDR266 or something a little higher. Try taking out one stick, then the other. Run Memtest86 from my sig for about 6 hours and see if it reports any errors.
