USB questions

Hello everyone,

How can I find out what type of USB port (2.0, 1.1, 1.0) I have on my laptop?? I got 3 of them but not sure what they are.

Also, if my USB ports are 2.0, are there converters that convert them into a USB 1.1 or 1.0 port? I know, don't ask why :).

Thanks very much.

USB 2.0 is backward compatable with 1.1, but may not be with all incarnations of 1.0

What model laptop is it? All modern laptops have USB 2.0, and as hwm54112 said, they are backwards compatible.

Thank you. My laptop is fairly new so I think it's USB 2.0. But I'm looking for a way to change them to 1.1 only. For example if I have a device that can use USB 2.0 or 1.1, I want that device to connect to my laptop with 1.1 (not 2.0). I know it's weird, but if you know a way that'd be great.

Thanks.

If you are using a USB 1.1 device, it will transfer using USB 1.1. I am curious, why do you want to use this transfer mode? USB 2.0 is superior in every way to USB 1.1.

Ok, well here is my scenario. I have 2 laptops, 1 old (USB1.1 probbaly) 1 new (USB2.0). I also have a drawing device that can connect using USB2.0 and USB1.1. At my place, there is a radio station that causes radio frequencies to interfere with my drawing device, so my cursor will shake on the screen, making it impossible to draw stuff. However, this only happens on my NEW laptop. So basically I have my laptops beside each other, if I plug the device into my NEW laptop, the cursor shakes, but if I plug it into the old one, everything works fine. Both laptops have updated WinXP and the drivers. I understand that USB2.0 is superior, but I'm guessing that since the only notable difference bewteen the 2 laptops are the USB ports, I think maybe if I change my new laptop to USB1.1, the shaking of the cursor will stop.

Basically this is what's troubling me..thanks.

I could be wrong, but I don't believe you can convert from usb 2 to usb 1.1. There backward compatible, not forward. I would compare the power output of the ports and take a look at the usb wire itself, perhaps try a high quality, shielded cable
