Laptop Screen Problem/Compatability Question.
I have an older Dell Insprion 6000 laptop whos screen is on the fritz. When I initially boot up (or switch to the local screen using fn-F8 the screen initially comes up (all be it with a slight red tint) then after a few seconds goes black. If I look real closely at the screen I can see the windows, but they are just too dim to see normally. I had gotten suggestions (from other boards) that it was probably the back-light going bad. I found a place in town that would look at it and he told me that the problem was likely the inverter. Long story short changing the inverter didn't fix the problem, and he suggested that it was probably either the back-light or the screen all-together. He also mentioned that you had to essentially disassemble the display to replace the back-light and that he didn't do that kind of work.
1) I guess I really have two questions. Is it really hard to replace the back-light on a Dell Inspiron 6000? 2) If I decided to just replace the screen, do I have to find one that specifically works with a Dell Inspiron 6000, or would any 15.4 LCD Laptop screen work? Thanks, |

Honestly, I'm not sure. I have never done it. It probably is, but I doubt it will be worth it. Take a look at this page.
