"Patriot" Laptop not booting up, Please HELP I'm in Africa!!

Hello everyone

I'm new here, I'm in Tanzania right now and my friend needs help with his laptop. It's some brand I never heard before, and it seems pretty outdated. His cousin got it from England.

It's a Patriot
It has Windows XP
and the only other information is that it's
VIA C3 Processor 1.2 GHZ

The problem started when right after his computer booted fully, a window popped up warning that the computer would turn off in 30 seconds.

It shut down of course, and now when we try to turn it on, it only shows the first couple moments of booting (where it let's you choose Function buttons so you can log on in safe mode, etc.). It won't go to where the Windows XP logo comes on screen. And you can still hear the computer turned on, but the screen just turns black.

Please help, tech support is very hard to find around here in Tanzania and usually they are little to no help. I appreciate any answers and suggestions I get, thank you and Happy new year!!

Try and see if you can boot into safe mode.

This sounds like a virus.
