IBM T21 Laptop

Hi

I have installed Win 2000 pro on to the above laptop, I am having problems with the graphics. They will only set on 800 X 600 so I have a small screen showing. If I stretch the screen it ditorts the image.

I have read somewhere that there can be a wrong setting in the registry, but I can't find the information now!

Can someone please help me I will be eternally grateful

Thanks Martin

Native resolution on the T21 is 1024x768. Did you load the video drivers for it?

CJ is right, if you installed Windows 2K, it won't come with the correct video driver, and it will use a generic driver which will cause the symptoms you are experiencing.

Boot up in safe mode. Press and hold F8 when you see the IBM logo until you get a boot menu. Then, select Safe Mode with Networking.

Once it finishes booting and you are logged on, go into the device manager. Uninstall the driver under Display Adapters. once that is uninstalled, install your new driver from the link.

Then, reboot, and boot up normally. Now you should be able to set the correct screen resolution in the Display Properties.

Hi Crazijoe

Thanks for your reply I had already loaded the drivers. I have reloaded them and it has not made any difference.

The IBM site talks about changing setting in display properties.

When I go into display properties / settings /colors are only 16 bit and I can't alter it. If I go into advanced / monitor, it says default monitor and the properties button is not highlighted.

Does this information help you if not what do you need?

Thanks in anticiapation.

When you go into the Display Properties and go to the Settings tab, does it say the name of your video adapter (SavageIX8) or something similar?

I have read your PM. This is a definite sign Windows is using a generic driver. If you can't see anything under Display Adapters or you can't see that category, then move on and install the file from the link.

Ibm T21

Hi Matt

As it extracts the files it stopped and said " The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process"

I have pressed OK and it shows the installshield wizard as complete.

When I have started it up in normal mode again it has not altered anything. If I go into display properties / settings / advanced / the adapter type is VGA and all the information is unavailable. ( I don't know if this is related or not?).

Have you got anymore ideas??????

Thanks

Martin
