Dell laptop battery

Hi

We have a Latitude D600 and a Latitude D610 and the thing i cant work out is when battery is on 600 we get 4hrs but when put on 610 its only half that but showing full charge on both machines
there is a massive difference in battery life to both systems, if i use the same battery ie on the 600 i get 3hrs 50m and on the 610 i get 50mins.
The systems are similar ie both have same amount of ram, same hard drive. and processers are slightly different as 600 has 1.4 pentium m and 610 is running a 1.86 centrino both on xp pro.
The ram is ddr2 on 610 i would think.
Software is similar except 610 has dell quickset and i need to update bios on 610 as its running version 3 and version 6 is out now.

The 1.4 GHz Pentium M was a very low power CPU. Which is the Centrino chip? If that is a Core Duo or a Core 2 Duo, then that would explain it. Also, if the power scheme is on Notebook/Laptop on the D600 and the Power scheme is on Always On on the D610, then that would explain it as well. Switch the power schemes so they are the same and see if you get more equal battery life between the two laptops.

I just checked, the D610 has an Intel Pentium M 750 1.86 GHz, and the D600 has an Intel Pentium M 738 1.40 GHz. The 738 is a lower voltage CPU than the 750, and it runs at a faster speed, so that would explain the battery life. Also, if the D610 has more RAM or a faster hard disk, then then it would have a lower battery life. And the Mobility Radeon 9000 in the D600 will take less power than the X300 in the D610.

Thank you for taking the time to look over both specs for me, i was also thinking of upping the memory to 1ghz but might rethink that now.

RAM would boost battery life...

and it's 1GB, not 1GHZ ..

RAM would have a small but slightly noticable impact on battery life, as higher capacity modules use more power than lower capacity modules. But the main thing is the CPU and GPU differences.

I guess your D610 didn't have the X300, but the Pentium M would definatley be the cause of the shorter battery life. And another thing, the D610 may have a smaller battery (for example, a 4-cell instead of a 6-cell like the D600).
