video playback distorted

hi ive had my laptop for a few days and some of my videos when i play them they are in different colour like a photo negative and stuff like that is there something wrong with my laptop or cant it handle to play movies? it an accer aspire 5101 2GHZ 1G ram 60G hard drive AMD turion processor

Can you post the specs of your graphics card please?

Try using different media players, any difference?

its a ati radeon xpress 1100, i dont have other players besides wmp

What version of WMP are you using?

Make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card, and the latest video codecs.

Is it only WMV files? Try playing other file types.

its not all wmv's that distort colour others when i try to jump ahead it lags in audio or wont play other types are fine with colour just with the audio and stuff i have version 9 wmp im downloading the latest now and where can i get the driver's and codecs? thanks so much for your help

Make sure you download WMP10 not 11,

And then goto http://www.free-codecs.com/download/XP_Codec_Pack.htm

And download the XP Codec Pack, you may also want to look at the other codec packs, particularly Codecs 360 or words to that affect.
