Is it too early to know what or if there is anything wrong yet?

Ok, I'm building a whitebook from the Asus Z62F barebook... The hard drive and Intel 3945 wireless card haven't shipped yet. Nonetheless, I thought I would try to test things. My setup as follows:

CPU - Intel Merom T5600 @ 1.83GHz
RAM - Corsair 1GB DDR2 667MHz
ODD - Samsung CD/DVD combo burner
HDD - none yet
Wireless - none yet

Now, when I try to turn on the power, it doesn't boot. I get one post beep, which from what I've read on most sites is a DRAM refresh error in AMI BIOS. However, the power does NOT turn off. The headphone jack blinks red and all the outside LED indicator lights blink, the ODD blinks on, and the LEDs across the top of the keyboard blink. The ODD is responsive in that I can open and close it with the button press. However, the screen remains completely blank. Also, I do not hear the fans start up at all. Do I definitely have a problem, or is it impossible to tell without everything installed yet? HELP!!!
