Screen went black

I have a Toshiba Satellite 1.3mgh pentium 4 processor. My screen went black and I can't get it to come back. What have I done ? My os is Windows XP. I'm not sure what other information might be needed I'm very much so a beginner. I hope I can be helped. Thanks

Then the backlight has probably burned out. Is your laptop still under warranty? Contact the manufacturer, and they should replace the backlight, as this is most likely covered under the warranty.
