Mistake Spillage on Laptop

Hi there,

While back I managed to spill Jack & Coke on me laptop, as you are thinking now, this has had severe adverse effects - Mind of it's own, shorts, shuts down without warning, high pitched sqealing, running away, drinking (my Jack) and all sorts of naughty stuff .

I dismantled it recently to clean the motherboard and other components, put it back together it it works perfectly! Except that it shuts down after 30secs of starting XP...
This is a Packard Bell Easynote, not the greatest in the world, but all I could afford at the time.

Do you think it'd be worth it to repair or just chuck it?

Hi and welcome to TSF! Sounds like your machine is overheating. When you dismantled the machine and reassembled it, be sure you mounted the heatsink and fan assembly onto the CPU properly. If you did remove this, you may need to apply some new thermal grease to transfer the heat off of the CPU. The best known is Arctic Silver heat compound. It can be found here:

When your laptop restarts, hold down F8 and you will see a bunch off boot options. Go down and select "Disable Automatic Restart on System Failure". Then boot back up, and see if you get an error or BSOD.
