Probably a stupid question...

I have recently acquired a rather well worn and tatty but very servicable compaq EVO N600c running xp pro. The thing runs surprisingly quick and handles pre dx 9.0 games without a problem! (I think it has a mobility radeon 7500 or something of the like in it). Now, heres the clincher, i already know I cannot upgrade the graphics card as it was integrated, but is there any way of forcing dx9 only games to run with the dx8 compatible onboard card? Graphics arent an issue as i just want this thing to keep me entertained when im out and about waiting for soundchecks/in the studio etc.

Now, now. There are some games that allow that, but it's a matter of the game's compatibility rather than a 'translation' kind of thing. Nexus: The Jupiter Incident, for example is a DX9 game but has the option for force DX8. If the game supports it, sure. In such a case, this thread should be moved to a gaming forum.

A lot of DX8 cards have software DX9 support, but this will not be as good s hardware rendering, so you should use OpenGL if possible.
