Acer Aspire 9400 series audio issue

Manu: Acer
Model: Aspire 9402
OS: Windows XP with SP2

A few months back a friend of mine convinced me to try out Linux Ubuntu 6.06. I tried it, liked it and switched over. After a month or so I got tired of it and decided to switch back to XP with a copy I had on hand, because i had never thought to make a backup disk when I first recieved the laptop. Everything worked ok but the audio. XP doesn't even recognize that I have a sound card in. When I go to Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices it tells me I don't have any audio devices present. So I went into my device manager and checked it out [see attachment for screenshot]. I'm utterly confused by this point. After some digging I believe I have Intel HD audio, but I'm not too certain on that. Any help is appreciated.

Hi and welcome to TSF. That screen shot shows that you have the hardware's audio codecs installed, but not the actual sound card. Here's the driver page for your laptop:

Download the Realtek sound driver first, then anything else.

When you switched back to XP, did you use the recovery media that came with the laptop, or did you use a retail XP disk? If you use the recovery disks or the restore partition, it will have your sound drivers for you.
