HP freezes up

I have an hp pavillion dv1000, and whenever I set it down on the table, and then pick it up and set it in my lap, it will either freeze up on me, or reboot itself. Not sure if it is caused by static in the air, since it did stop doing it for a period of time before acting up again. Took it into computer repair shop, but no matter what they did, they couldn't get it to freeze up.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Sounds like putting it on your lap is blocking the airflow under the laptop and causing it to overheat and then freeze. While static electricity is potentially a problem, it should have no affect on the laptop if everything is secure and well connected within. Put a hard book on your lap and make sure there is an air gap between the laptop and book...see if it freezes then.

Welcome to TSF. If this is happening after a given amount of time, it could be heat. If not, you could have a motherboard circuitry or contact problem. If that is the case, you will need a motherboard replacement or an "HP repair guy" to solve it. If your computer is still under warranty, that'd be the way to go.
