Gaming Laptop?
Hello Everyone!!
I'm looking to buy a new gaming laptop for myself this christmas but am not sure which one. I was recommended by a friend to buy a Dell XPS but i'm not a great fan of Dell. Alienware maybe, but they are owned by dell i think and i have used one before and it got very hot and ran out of battery very quickly! Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Any gaming laptop is going to suck battery due to fast processors and high graphics.

Look at Acer laptops, they are very cheap, but quality, reliable, fairly good battery life, and my laptop, Aspire 5512WLMi, has played every game perfectly so far, with the ATI X700 128mb dedicated graphics.
I would stay away from Alienware and Dell, as you listen to peoples comments about them, and it is rather worrying...

You can get decent machines from Dell and other places, but there are better deals (and better machines) out there.
I dont know what the availability is like of Acer on the Emerald Isle, but I too would recommend one. Judging from the fact that Joe has a similar model, I'd say they probably are, even if you're not a northerner. I have a Acer Aspire 5672wlmi (badged 5670). This model comes with a dual core 1.66GHz processor, a gigabyte of ram, a 120GB hard drive and Mobility Radeon x1600 graphics. It plays anything I throw at it very well, and the best part about it was its price- I got mine for $1069, which is about €846. I don't know whether you guys have to put up with that "VAT" crap, but it might be a little more. Either way, it's a good value.

Acer's Ferrari Series are by far the best value to power ratio. They're just plain awesome. If you have the cash, go for those Voodoos. Those are ridiculous, but they're sure to play every game you lob at them. The TravelMate is actually a pretty good machine. Shoot for that or the Ferrari.

Personally, I'm much happier with my plain-branded Aspire. The value to power ratio, in my opinion, is higher there because I didn't pay for aesthetics or brand licensing.
