Quick question, What is the OS and what major updates do they have installed Like Win XP with SP2 - also maybe look at power setting for the laptop - do they only have the OS or do they also have all the laptop native drivers! That is really the only way to diagnose the problem give us a little more info about the com arc.

Welcome to TSF. Can you provide a screenshot of this? It would also help if you provided the laptops brand/model/make and some specs along with the OS and general installed software.

I just looked at the power settings under the control panel (WIN XP) and you may want to look to see how they have configured their advanced tab. Set the "when I press the power button on my computer:" to "ask me what to do" see if this helps - if nothing else they can just press the power button to standby, shut down, or restart - further log off features on XP can be set to show up beside the "turn off computer" button in the start menu -
Also you may suggest that they can always pres the "CTRL+ALT+DEL" keys and click on the shutdown drop down menu which has all the options of "standby, hibernate, restart, turnoff, logoff, switch user" Lastly if they have a winkey (the little key that will open the start menu) then they should be able to press "WINKEY + L" and log off that way. Just some ideas - mostly based off of XP win 2000 is a little dif... Last edited by fluhlej; 10-15-2006 at 11:32 PM. Reason: Spelling |

I suspect it has to do with fast user switching, using the welcome screen or guest account is on or off-
Possibly if using the classic start menu>properties>customize>display logoff or a combination of the settings |

Well one reason may be because we are talking windows - now I am a supporter of the Microsoft family of products but I am willing to admit that somtimes weird stuff happens. In all truth I am not to sure why you want to know the cause - if it seems to only happen randomly then so long as you have a fix then great! On the other hand if it happens every time then I am not as sure- one thing to consider is that the users are Human which means they could be doing and probably are doing somthing that is creating the problem that is our folly and right as humans - to make mistakes
My suggestion is that if you *really* need to know the cause get a comp put on the image and see what happens try doing difernt setups when you first boot, play with the computer and see if you can break it the same way...maybe then you will understand why...but I think that is going to take you more time than it is worth... Oh but if you do the testing and find the source be sure to let us know for other forums and friends - to be honest I do not have a "Toshiba M7 tablet" pc so it is nearly impossible for me to give you an exact reason why. (maybe yu can ask Microsoft..jk ;) |

I kind of agree with fluhlej. The only practical way to get an answer is to try and recreate it. that's why I didn't offer a why in my posts. there are just too many variables in the scenario and while I have an interest in the problem/solution, my setup is unlike yours so I can't really even test my ideas, only try and lead you toward finding the solution
