Mistake Gateway 7320(or combination of those number)

Im having a very bad week. My laptop decided to play dead and now it wont stop.

Here is the issue.

I was browsing online when my computer froze.

I restarted, and when it came back online i got the screen saying that windows was not properly shutdown and i could start in safe mode yada yada. or normal mode. I gave 5 options. I tried Normal Start-up. well it acted as though it was starting up and then went right back to the same screen. Where it gave me the Start-up options. I tried selecting every option that was available and it always goes back to the same thing.

I have over 5000 pictures on my laptop from my wedding that i absolutely can not loose. Can anyone help.

Welcome to the forums. First, we should try to recover that data:
1. Do you have a desktop computer available to you?
2. Are you comfortable with opening that desktop computer and removing the hard drive from the laptop?
3. You will need to purchase a 2.5" to 3.5" hard drive adapter to use the laptop hard drive in a desktop.

Before that, do you have a Windows XP CD handy? Preferably the one that came with that computer, if any. With this, you can repair Windows. Follow the instructions in my signature to find out how. Please read the steps before doing it as to make yourself familiar with the procedure. I hope this goes well...

1. Kinda, Mother in laws. Might not be thrilled if i open it all up!

2. Yeah. Im the kinda guy that loves to tear stuff apart to put it back together.

3. Best Buy should have it.

The only CD's that came with the Laptop were blank ones that i was supposed to copy some information to when i first started up the laptop. Naturally being me, i failed to do it. You know. The whole, Ahhh it will never happen to me mentality. Anywhere i might be able to pick up a copy of that!

Something like the above will work with virtually any computer. I have something similar that I use an old 20GB drive in for moving large files and archives around with and it works great.

ok, i just bought a new 120g hard drive and one of the hard drive enclosures. i used my old 80g HD in the enclosure and connected it via the usb it came with to my friends computer. i was able to view everything on the hard drive thru my friends windows. So im assuming that means the my Windows XP home SP2 OS has ***** the bed on me? Now i gotta find a disk for it due to the fact that I have a gateway and they put the re-install files and everything on the hard-drive in a second petition. :P

P.S. I beleive this recent devolpment has made this a Windows Xp issue not a laptop issue. Would someone please move this to the appropriate thread

If you'd like you can creat a new topic since we've made progress. Did your Gateway come with a restore CD or a Windows XP CD? If it's a Windows XP CD you can use that to install the OS to the laptop and use the key (which SHOULD be on the bottom of it) to install with.

Unfortunately, it is my understanding that Gateway made my hard drive with a partition. Thats where the restore CD is. The only way to do it to my understanding is to use the same HD. Now that i have purchased a new 120gig Hard drive, I would like to use that in my laptop and just use my 80gig that got screwy as an external HD. So i would need a disk to re-install windows. I was told that there is a way to retreive my reg key from the old HD that way if i get a xp home disk i could install it on the new HD and use the same reg key as my old HD. now i just need to find a xp home disk. Anyone have any ideas?

The maker of the PC, Gateway, is REQUIRED to place the code on the outside of the computer where it can be easily seen. You may be able to order a CD from Gateway, but I don't know for certian. Most of the ones I worked with came with a CD with the full OS on it.
