I have an alienware laptop and recently, when i start it up there are lines running through the screen. There is another problem too, when windows almost gets to the login screen, the computer crashes and reboots itself. Please help, I don't know what to do! I am running windows xp home edition xp1.

Try starting it in safe mode-Tap F8 repeatedly after turning it on-when you get to the safe mode menu-there should be an advanced startup option to "disable automatic restart"
Instead of rebooting, the computer will stop and hopefully generate an error message. Also try starting it in safe mode (not the advanced option as indicated above) If you make any progress, try connecting to an external monitor or tv output to see if it's the video card, drivers or display and post back |

You should run chkdsk /r.
Either from safe mode if possible or recovery console if you have an xp install cd to correct any errors on the drive. If that doesn't do it, then run the command "fixboot" from recovery console-to fix the boot.ini file |
