CD-Rom problem with Satellite A-105

I have a Satellite A-105-S4074 for about 3 months, and my CD-Rom has recently been stuttering and playing DVDs and audio CDs at delayed speeds. The movie lines are stuttered, and when I try importing CDs on ITunes, they playback at crawling speeds.

Does the CD-Rom need replacing? Is there a setting that I accidentally triggered? Any help would be appreciated.

Toshiba's can be real dogs, not enough RAM, too many running Processes and too much Bloatware.

How much RAM is in the machine?
How many running Processes are active on the machine (Ctrl, Alt, Del, Task Manager, bottom left corner)?

Do you run AOL, Norton or McAfee Internet Security?

Try booting machine in Safe Mode (F8 during boot up) and see if the CD/DVD works better.

Welcome to the forums! HWM, that's an interesting article. I just solved a problem with another older machine I had with it! Who knew PIO still existed! That's really odd. Do audio or video files play OK?

It's a very common, and often overlooked issue. Hard drive's revert to PIO as well, just not as often. Whenever you see choppy video or sound, I/O errors while copying to a rom drive, high cpu usage and slow performance, jerky screen savers-check transfer modes. If you look at the transfer mode settings box there are two text boxes-one is "tranfer mode", the other is "current transfer mode" . Transfer mode= what it should be, current transfer mode= what the transfer mode actually is
