Cry Help please...

I usually rely on my husband for these kinds of things but this time I have decided to try on my own. I have an e-machine laptop. Recently, I wanted to purchase more Ram for it. I went to the store, asked what I needed. The tech guy pulled out my ram and showed me. I decided it was too expensive and he put my computer back together and I went home.
When I got home, my computer was not working. The power light comes on but nothing else. There is no sweet beep on starting up nor anything on my screen. I am in a panic because a few hours earlier (before store) it was working fine.

Can anyone help me??

I have some good news! I caved and asked a fellow co-worker at school to help me out. He has a background in computers. He simply removed the ram (my computer has two memories) and started it without. It worked. He then shut it down, replaced the other memory and restarted. It worked!! I was so happy I almost cried. Thanks for all your help!
