Laptop took a swim in Pepsi, any HELP Pls.
We have a Toshibe Satillite 1415-s105. Its about 4-5 years old and yesterday, our 6 yr old decided it needed a Pepsi bath, approx. 8-10 oz across the keyboard. it shut down immediatly and now will not do anything. Not worring about the laptop, as we were looking at new ones anyway, but Is there anyway to get the info off the harddrive. Can i connect it to my desktop computer as a second drive?
IT was running Win xp home. Any help will be greatly appreciated William Scogins

You will need a Notebook drive adapter
Change the jumper on the notebook drive to "slave" or "cable select". Install it to the middle connector on the same ribbon cable as the desktop's hard drive |

The first thing I'd do is wash it. Yep, in distilled water. You have to get any Pepsi out of the drive before you try to move the heads across the disks. I'd remove the drive, see if there's any residual on the outside. If not, then follow the other's recommendations. If it appears that the softdrink migrated into the drive, I'd try to wash it out before doing anything else.

Make sure when cleaning with distilled water (distilled - anything else will leave mineral deposits that can cause shorts) to let it thoroughly air-dry a good 24 hours. Sometimes overnight is not long enough.

i couldn't get the adapter listed, but I was able to get a 2.5" USB hard drive enclosure kit and the hard drive information is there, woohoo. Thanks for all the advice. I would try to clean the laptop, but it was running when the spill happened and it shut itself off and got very hot, so im pretty sure its fried. At least the data is there, thanks again,
William
