HP Pavilion ze4430us

Hey everyone, I'm having a problem with my laptop battery. My computer will turn off immediately after unplugging the AC Adapter. I got a new battery; however, it does not charge at ALL. I tried a different AC Adapter (it was a little bit different - both were 90 Watts, but mine has a 18.5 volt output, his is 19 volt), but the same thing happened. I'm a student who's graduating in one year so I'm trying to keep this laptop alive until I graduate and can afford a nicer one, I'm also trying to avoid spending a hefty amount of money, HP said they are willing to fix it for ~240 or so. Thanks for any help guys.

Try cleaning the contacts on the laptop (where the battery sends power into the laptop).

Hmm... pretty simple, what do you recommend I use for cleaning something like that?

A touch of rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab will work. Just rub the contacts a bit to get rid of any dirt or mild corrosion.

You also should determine if the replacement battery is any good - some are not even straight from China. Do you know anyone who has a similar comp? Ask them if you can insert your battery in their comp and see if it accepts a charge. If so, you've got something wrong inside the laptop. It could be a loose connection where the power plug connects to the main board. A skilled technician can probably fix this. But the first thing is to determine where the fault lies.

Re: HP Pavilion ze4430us

I wrote this post 2 years ago and thought I would let everyone know what happened in case people were looking for answers. It turned out that the battery I received was in fact a bad battery. I was able to get a new one from the company i bought it from and that one worked fine (until the laptop itself kind of fell apart with old age and abuse).

Just to let you know these "old" posts are still monitored.....my problem WAS with dirty battery contacts...not the battery. Thanks.
