gateway m520
hi,
just recently, my laptop began just turning off for no reason. when i power it back up, it takes me directly to the 'F10boot F2bios' screen. i spoke with tech support & they recommended i unplug the battery, press the power switch for 15 seconds, then reinstall battery, reboot & do a system recovery. i tried this, & when the recovery was nearly complete, it again took me to the f2, f10 screen. is this something I can fix on my own? is this a hard drive issue? perhaps a motherboard issue? any advice? |

Hello and welcome to TSF,
Sounds like you need to replace your cmos battery for starters. I'm not familiar with your restore process but generally they require a reboot, so it reboots, setup info was not saved so you are automatically taken to setup. Therefore, battery Bill Last edited by hwm54112; 08-25-2006 at 10:28 AM. |

M520 Heat issue
I am working on one of these right now. It has the exact issue you describe. I have worked on it before. It is a known problem. Also the plug for the power supply has been a problem. Some have actually burned out the plug connection on the motherboard.
So keep it cool (blow a fan over it) and be extra smooth when plugging and unplugging. Gateway ignores the issue (as do other manufacturers). good luck |
