installing windows 98 onto HP laptop
I was given a HP omnibook 4150 for my daughter to use. It is a Pentium 2 with 64 megs of ram.
Anywho this is the problem, it has no O/S except for the XP that is slowly installing as we speak just to get something on there for now. The laptop has a cdrom and a floppy drive and they both work great, the only thing is they plug into a slot on the laptop and I can only have one or the other in. I boot off the floppy (boot disk) fine and then it will not install the drivers for the cd rom because it cannot see it as installed. So when I switch to the cd rom to install Win98 SE it says not a valid drive. I know the cd rom works because XP can boot of of it but XP is painfully slow on it. Any ideas how I can beat this would be great. LS. |

in this thread i mention making a bootable windows 98 cd.
dell computer...repairable or not??? some people will undoubtedly pipe up and say yours is bootable, but chances are if you are having that problem, it is not. you will need a tool that understands how to do "el-torrito" bootable cd's. i can't explain it much more, not without asking for some input from the rest of the staff. basically, i can say this... if you have a bootable floppy, and your windows 98cd, and a burner, and a floppy drive, and roxio, or another good burning tool, then you should have all the components to create the bootable win98 cd.
