Defective RAM?
Hi. I posted here a while ago with questions about a Toshiba Satellite 320CDS. I decided to get more RAM for the laptop, so I ordered some:
http://www.alancomputech.com/128mb-100-sodimm.html Here is the official spec sheet for my laptop (PDF): http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com//con...ite_320cds.pdf I received the RAM today and installed it. (I'm pretty sure I installed it correctly; I heard it snap into place). I booted up my computer, and neither the BIOS nor the OS detected it. Is there some way to force my system to scan for changes, or should I try to return the RAM? Thanks. |

If the RAM is correct, it should boot up and detect it right away.
Being your computer is so old, the 128mb size may contain chips that are too dense for your computer to handle. Do you have just two slots for RAM? If so, you most likely won't be able to go over 64mb per slot.

I went to this site.
http://www.memorystock.com/memory/To...ite320CDS.html They show that your Toshiba will accept a 128MB stick of memory. It also states that they NON-Standard 144p SO DIMMs. So they might be propriatary to that machine. |

O.K., Thanks for your help. crazijoe, on that site that you linked to, that type of ram that they are selling is the non-standard type that *should* work in my machine, right? That looks like a pretty good price.

I pretty sure they would garranty the compatibility. But as far as the price, It's a bit pricey for me. But then again, we are talking about propriatary memory. At $120.00 you may want to rethink this because I doubt the laptop is even worth that much.

Right. I definitely would not purchase 128Mb. The 64Mb for $25 looks pretty good though, it's rather inexpensive and it would triple the amount of memory my laptop has now. I'm just messing around with this laptop, so I'm not going to purchase $120 worth of ram. Thanks.
