Hi everyone!
There's something terribly wrong about my computer, I'm using Win XP Media Center Edition SP2 & I'm experiencing a big problem: My computer freezes regularly when I'm connected to the Internet , everything freezes even mouse pointer stops moving & I will have to restart the computer... I scanned my computer with Kaspersky Internet Security 2006 & Spyware Doctor, defragged my hard disc & even reinstalled Windows but the problem still exists... The strange point is that my computer only crashes when I use Internet & when I'm not connected to the NET, it works perfectly... Please help me... I'm really confused this thing is annoying me... Thank you! |

Try another browser
Sounds like maybe Internet Explorer is acting up. What I would probably do is try using Firefox web browser for a few days to see if the problem disappears. If the problem does then you know something is wrong with Internet Explorer.
If that doesn't solve the problem that what I would do after that is complete remove and reload my network drivers and all of TCP/IP. Hope this helps

do a scan on your c:\ for viruses. make sure it is set to scan all files. if it finds anything then you'll need to go through these steps.

It could be more of a hardware problem, try replacing a new nic card, or even moving ur memory slots over one dimm channel, honestly that does seem to help.. usually a format would clear it all up if its a software issue but not everyone wants to do that.

assuming he is using the NIC to connect to the internet - then trying another one might help.
reseating the RAM wouldn't do any harm, but the freezing would happen more often not just when online. formatting may or may not help. if it is security then the same problem will be be back when he connects to the internet again. using sfc/scannow from the command prompt might help correct system files if they are corrupt. but i moved his hijack log to the security section and maybe they will find something wrong with it.

i don't think it is the hardware really. you can do a scandisk on the HD, by right clicking on c:\ > properties > tools tab> check now.
this will scan the HD for faults and i don't expect it will find any, but try it anyway. it might ask to do it next time you restart - thats ok. i'd wait until someone from security has a look at you hijack log.

I mean the ZoneAlarm postpones the freezing, but it happens! Without ZoneAlarm it happens every 20-30 Minutes but when using ZA it would take up to a few hours but it will freeze at last!
I saw a strange behaviour as well! My Bitdefender Antivirus turned off, I turned it On, again it turned off & to be continued... |

This is quite interesting. I would blame a hardware fault in the modem or NIC (depending on how you connect to the internet). We need some sort of complete hardware diagnostics. What computer brand and model are you using?
