WiFi Light/Switch?

Good morning/evening/afternoon worm, your honor!

I've recently acquired a Toshiba Satellite 1400-S151 with wireless antenna leads. If anyone remembers, I've also had an escapade on a Toshiba Satellite 1805-S207. The 1400 is actualy better than the 1800 as far as speed is concerned. It's also much better lookin' . Well, anyway, the computer actually has wireless antenna leads for WiFi in the MiniPCI slot, however it did not come with a WiFi Card. There is also a WiFi antenna switch on the right side of the machine intended to enable and disable the internal antenna. I also recently stumbled accross an 802.11b Cisco Aironet MiniPCI Card from an IBM ThinkPad T30. I've just installed it and it works marvelously. The catch is (my pickiness) the switch and light are not operational and do not seem to affect the wireless systems (detection/association/connection). So, thats my first question. Second, there is also a 'Fn' shortcut key associated with F8. The icon indicates some sort of wireless antenna. It is the same icon used near the WiFi antenna switch. Does anyone have any idea as to what this is supposed to do on these models or if it is supposed to activate some sort of application or wireless device? On an IBM ThinkPad T40, that shortcut opens a small applet showing a summary of the signal strength, SSID and allows the end-user to turn the antenna on and off from the software. When Windows is not up and running, the shortcut simply toggles the antenna (indicated by the LED).

Help anyone?
