Toshiba delayed boot - sometimes
I have a Toshiba M35X-S149. After 11 months, the main board was replaced under warranty. 3 weeks later (now out of warranty), it developed a new problem. When I power up (cold or from standby) it doesn't boot immediately. The blue power LED(around the power button) is on, the green power led on the front of the laptop is on and the hard drive activity light flashes for a second, then nothing. About 5-10 minutes later, it will boot and work with no problems. If I restart from within windows, it reboots fine. If I close the cover and open it 5 minutes later, I get the delay again. Sometimes (~10%) if I power up while on battery, then plug in the AC cord almost immediately, it will boot without the delay. If left long enough, it has never not booted.
I have reinstalled the OS (XP Home) from the recovery disk, so I'm sure it's not a virus related issue. I have also tried a new HD with no success. Anyone have any ideas?? |

I've never heard of it taking that long, but is usually related to an extended POST test. It is usually disabled in the BIOS settings, but as far as I know Toshiba does not offer that option. I'm afraid I can be of no help in this field. This may require another main board replacement. When it was originally replaced, did it exhibit the same problem? (Maybe I can help...)

It is very likely the motherboard. I can't pinpoint it from here. I suggest downloading some diagnostics software from the "InterWeb". I can't think of one right now, but you will need something that can test deep stuff..
