IBM T30 won't turn on

Hi, I went to turn my laptop on and the moon + battery symbol flashed then went out. The indicator lights came on then went out and only the power (Z) symbol stayed on. Nothing else comes on. No screen nothing. I have changed the cmos battery. I have done everything possible including the FN button. Any suggestions?

Hi Ibmgrl, and welcome to TSF!
Is the laptop running on batteries or AC power? Have you tried the other?

The battery and sleep indicator always flash followed by the system indicators when a ThinkPad is powered on. If it does not do anything when you try to turn it on under AC power, you likely have fried your motherboard. T30s are easy to service and their guides are available under IBM's (not lenovo's) website. Impact computers have replacement parts here:

http://www.impactcomputers.com/ibmpa...t30-parts.html

Determine your PC by looking on the bottom of the thinkpad at the Sticker starting with "Type", and a 4 digit number. The rest is determined by your resolution.(either XGA or SXGA)

Click "Internal Parts And Assemblies" for the motherboards. They should be near the bottom.

Good luck, the T30 is an excellent machine.
