Upgraded RAM Crysis

I recently bought a new notebook and took the added 1G RAM from my old
notebook and placed it in the new one. To my delight the new notebook
accepted the RAM and runs beautiful. But the old notebook has stopped
working completely. When I power the old compaq perserio r3000 on I can
hear the hard drive, the disk drive, the wireless lights comes on, but the
screen is completely black

. I really hope I didn't ruin some
kind of hardware reconition settings by simple removing the added RAM.
If anyone can give me any insite into the cause of the blank screen
or any ways to fix it, it would be deeply appriciated thx.

Does this laptop have multiple RAM slots? Try cleaning them and swapping to the other available slot.

If you put the other RAM back in, does it work?

I didn't try to put the other RAM back in because I thought I might run into the same problem with my new notebook. I will try to reinstall the OS and hopefully the screen will come on

If it doesn't come on at all even before it boots then its likely not a problem with Windows.

With the added 1GB (single module?) RAM removed, how much memory does the old computer have? If it has none, there's your problem. A computer cannot run with memory (of course!). Otherwise, you may have somehow shorted something out. I say try puting that memory back in to see if it works. I seriously doubt that it has to do with Windows, but you never know these days...
