laptop power settings

Hi again-- I have another problem... laptop (Dell inspiron with XP media center) goes into standby sometimes after I recover it from standby! If I open the cover and it doesn't come back I press the power button, and more than half the time it goes back into standby mode! I played with settings, set things to "never", restored defaults, etc...

any ideas???

When it goes into standby, does it show the windows "standing by" screen? or does it just stop runing imediately?

I've seen this before. The hardware switch that tells ACPI that the lid has closed somtimes sends multiple signals. When the computer wakes up, ACPI sends the signal to the OS again, inducing standby. If it keeps up, disable that in Power Settings in Control Panel. If you are using a Toshiba with Toshiba Power Saver installed, you will have to use that.
