Brand new laptop program freezing problem
Ok I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite laptop brand new. I've been having somewhat of a problem though. I've put several programs on the computer, none of them have high specs that the computer would be struggling with, examples include the computer game Myst, this language learning program and a couple others. I've been having a problem where for example in Myst I will get to some point where I click to move to a new area and then the computer starts reading the disc to get the data and then the game freezes and I get that error message which says an error has occurred and this program must close and you can choose to send microsoft an error report or don't send. When this happens, it occurs right as you click on some sort of new option and the computer begins reading the CD/DVD so it can proceed. It doesn't always do this when loading from the disc though which I find strange.
This computer is brand new, I have done absolutely nothing to it in the way of modifications. I'm really kind of disappointed by these problems and I can't understand why they'd be occuring. Does anyone have any idea what the issue could be here? Thanks a lot. |

It may still be the CD/DVD, try ripping the CD/DVD image to the hard drive, and mounting it, then see if it works. Alcohol 120% can make an image of the CD/DVD, and also emulate it. Daemon tools can also emulate the CD/DVD as a virtual CD/DVD drive.

DAEMON is the way to go, but their program needed funding, so they made teh bad decision of including MySearch (spyware/malware) and SearchBar in their application. Thats a shame. Try downloading version 3.47 from somewhere. Thats the latest one without the crappy spyware.
But this may be a CD-ROM power issue. Toshiba Power Saver usually has the option to slow the CD-Drive to save power. Are you running this game on the battery or on AC Power? If on teh battery, use Fn-F2 to switch power profiles. Select the "High Power" profile and try again. Keep us posted!
