Toshiba A10-S100 Multiple Problems, Please Help!
Hello there everyone, I have a Satellite A10-S100 and it has been facing some problems recently. Recently, we had a broadband connection and I upgraded our WinXP to SP2. However, during the installation, the notebook hanged, and I had to force it to shutdown. As I log back in, Windows tells me to uninstall SP2, and install it again. I uninstalled it, although there were some windows telling how drivers can get incompatible, I just proceeded with it. Now, I have SP2 successfully installed.
For my problem, I believe 2 drivers are now missing. Everytime I log in, a New Hardware message appears, saying: This wizard helps you to install software for: Toshiba ACPI-Compliant Value Added Logical Device When I click to next, it says that I'm missing tvald.sys The other message says: This wizard helps you to install software for: Toshiba Value Added Logical Device and General Purpose Device I'm missing tvalg.sys for this one. I've been searching, and downloaded several drivers. Unfortunately, I seemed to have gotten a wrong one. As I installed that one and restarted, my notebook showed the "RTC battery is low or CMOS checksum is inconsistent" error. I have read articles saying that I should leave it on and plugged in for atleast 8 hours, and I have left it for 12 hours but it still shows the error everytime I open the notebook. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the driver, but it seem to do so. Finally, I think I now have the right driver, which I found here. After I installed it and restarted my notebook, the RTC error no longer shows, and when Windows load, however a quick Blue Screen shows and restarts quickly. I can't note what is stated, since it automatically restarts. It does that everytime, and I used the 'Use Last Safe Settings' inorder to safely get inside again. However, it seems that the driver still isn't installed or used because of the Last Safe settings I picked. Please help me on this problem, and I would really appriciate quick replies. Thank you very much. |

Hi, and welcome to TSF!
Can you boot into safe mode? If you can't I think the only option is to put in the system disk that came with the computer and do a repair install or reformat/reinstall.

If you have your Toshiba Configuration Builder CD (comes with stock PCs) use that to recover. The newwer ones usually come on 3 CDs. The first CD either contains the stockload of drivers, or the OS. The second one is what the first one is not. The 3rd CD contains a bunch of optional software. Format and reinstall windows accordingly and install all of the drivers. Upgrade to Service Pack 2 and perform a Windows Update as many times as needed until your computer is 100% up-to-date. Install the remaining software and data last. SP2 generally has problems when anti-virus software is running, particularly Norton when it is being strict. Ironically, it won't let you run SP2 install in safe mode, so run it as soon as the drivers are installed, if not before.
As far as data recovery is concerned, try booting up with an XP CD (maybe the Toshiba CD) and run a repair. Insert and startup off of the CD like you are doing a format. After you agree to the EULA, it should scan the hard drive for Windows installations. It should then present you with a list of OSs. Select yours and press "R" to repair. It will get rid of the existing installation and resinstall Windows without deeting data or programs. When it is finished, it should run well, with all applications and documents intact. The best of luck to ya!
