Audio out of sync
Hi all ^_^
My mother had dropped water a week ago on my laptop, she didn't know *not sure she would have said something had she known * neither did we, though when my sister and I got back home, we noticed it was running considerably slower, programs refused to open up, all sorts of error messages popped up now and again: that happened on Saturday afternoon. Monday morning it refused to start up, we called the manufacturer: Fujitsu Siemens who tried to telephonically help out (they didn't know much either ) and eventually passed us onto a tech who suggested that we wait for it to dry out. We gave it a couple of days and things seem to be okay, took the hair dryer and gave it a whirl..everything seems to be running alright except for the headphone port. When plugged in, the headphones work but the sound also projects out of the laptop speakers...any clue what to do to get this thing running back to normal ?? I haven't a clue what to do and fujitsu is not helping Appreciate the time taken and looking forward to some help :D Many thanks |

Hi, and welcome to TSF!
The sound card is not detecting that the headphones are plugged in. There is a little mechanism in the jack that, when pressure is applied, tells the sound card not to play out of the speakers. You could try other headphones, but this could be hard to fix.

Hi Matt
thanks for the reply. I tried 3 different pairs of headphones, none seem to work ie. i can hear the sound from both headphones and onboard speakers I'm heavily annoyed *lol* took my paintbrush and shoved it in, hoping that miraculously it would somehow be reverted back to it's original stage but no luck there. Wonder what would happen if i opened the rear up ? I know laptops are darn sensitive but is there a chance that something could just be in the wrong place and need 'gentle' treatment ie. pushing/pulling etc back into whatever area it came out from ? I guess I'm asking how bad I'd mess the laptop up if i just opened it *assuming that i can* and took a look around. |

You can safely open it up as long as you don't touch everything, but unfortunatley I don't think you will be able to access the sound card. This is a very tough repair, I think if you could take it into a shop the people there might be able to help.

Yea, that warranty's gonna help you plenty, but the water is deffinitely a problem. The computer wasn't dropped, so it shouldn't be mechanical. It may be a small short, who knows! Fujitsu should be nice and willing to help out.
