It seems to have most of the parts but all are on the low end of the spectrum. There are similarly equiped laptops available from reliable sources that would do as well or better for less. Here's an ACER from tigerdirect as an example. LINK

It's not such a great deal that I'd jump without doing the research. It pays to shop around.

Thats a fairly good spec, but if you shop around like yustr said, you will probably find something better for the same price or less.

for surfing internet and general tasks, it is adequate. Gaming, video/sound editing, and even movies would not function very good at all.

I wouldn't get it simply because you couldn't pay me to get a Dell. A different brand with similar specs would be good.

Im looking to buy a new laptop. I kicked/tripped over the wire on my current one a few weeks back and the little pin in the socket is stuck in the charger wire. If that makes sense. So i have to get a new charger and someone to open up the laptop and fit a new power socket in. Will this be really expensive?

That along with it only having 40gb and a few other problems im probably going to buy a new one. The one i have now is a P4 2.8ghz, 704mb RAM. I use it for video editing and 3d anaimation so it has to be a good one. Was just wondering if a 1.8ghz celeron or something thats not a pentium, would i see a massive difference is speed compared to the one i have now. I can move the 512mb RAM into the new.

It seems OK, but not for that price, and not from that brand. If it had a better processor and maybe independent VRAM, I would accept it. I'm sure you can find far better for that price. Check out IBM/Lenovo or maybe Toshiba's Satellite line.
