HD partition resizing problems
My SATA HD contains 4 partitions, one containing Win XP. I also have an EIDE HD with a single partition that I use for general backup. The SATA HD was partitioned about a year ago using PartitionMagic 8. I am out of space with the System partition and would like to enlarge it. When I open PartitionMagic it does not show any partitions on the SATA drive and says the drive is "bad". If I open the WinXP HD management it shows all the partitions and says they are fine. I downloaded a GParted bootable .iso and it showed the SATA HD as unallocated. Both PartitionMagic and GParted show the EIDE HD as good.
How can I resize this partition without loosing all my data and why does WinXP see the disk as OK and other programs see it as having a problem? |

another option if you hit a brick wall is to clone your Sata drive to the IDE drive >>>> then blank the sata drive >>>> repartition and reformat >>>> then clone it back to the Sata drive
if you end up adopting this route; please dont proceed until we discuss it in detail. hopefully you can find a part manager that will cooperate

Well I dont know if PM supports SATA or not. I dug around the website some but couldnt find out. So I downloaded the trial of Boot It NG and it worked perfectly. I would guess that neither PM or GParted support SATA since Boot It NG and WinXP both see the partitions with no problems.
Thanks for the suggestion. |
