my external hd has lost all its files apparently!!

hey my externla hd wasn't showing up in my computer so i used the storage thing in administrative tools and labeled it again, now it wants me to reformat my drive but i've 80 gig on it of stuff. i could take it out and hook it up as a second ide, and usea file recover program but i'm not sure if it'll work, any help would be great

you sure should give it a go. you may even not need to use the software. Install it as slave and see the results first.

hey been doing exams so i only got to have a go today, the harddrive is in but it still asks me to format it, also i can't find any good, free hard drive software
