Don:
to start with I would erase the drive with darik's boot & nuke (free) in my signature >>>> especially as your present computer most likely not be able to find the drive parameters (allocation table) unless this drive you want to salavage was a former boot drive ?????? and if it was a former boot drive that could surface a whole new set of problems >>>>> easiest is just wipe the drive and start "fresh" just make sure you pull the power plug out of your boot drive prior to wiping the slave drive youre about to add >>> that will ensure you have no chance of wiping your valuable boot drive then you can use the disk managment feature of win xp and partition the drive then format the drive. You will have to partition the drive even if you just want one big chunk .... even a single "chunk" or drive so to speak has a partition (its the end of the drive) after that you can right click on my computer (desktop) select "manage" from the upper part of the menu / then select disk management from the left pane of the next console that will pop up / then in the right pane you should see the newly implanted slave drive right click on the new implant and select partition >>>>> you will want 100% partition size >>>> after partition is complete >>>> right click on the drive again >>>>> choose format >>>> then choose the file system from you want >>>> NTFS is the better choice
