Dubble Boot

ok so i got xp on my gateway 500x whatever i see all these threads on partitioning drives and programs to help u but its gettn to complicated.. al i wanna do is partition my drive to put on xp and linux. without the huge problems with not knowing what the heck to do.. is there just a easy way to do this
