2 HDs dissapeared - HELP

My computer has three internal HDs - main is SATA and two ide. I replaced the main drive and reinstalled Win XP. Main drive is OK, but the other two are not recognized, although they do show in the bios. I did unplug them while I installed the main drive. Please advise.

So they do not show up in My Computer or Device Manager?

Try this:

Click Start / Run and type in regedit
Open Regedit, and navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Checked for values named

Lowerfilters
Upperfilters

Delete them. Reboot the system, the drives should start functioning
again.

Geekgirl - I found the last named number, in fact there are a bunch. Only the first that I selected has the value "lowerfilters". Is that enough? "upperfiltrs" is not in any of the others -{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} I am really leary of deleteing from registry, although I have done it before.

If the drives are SATA you will need to load the SATA controller drivers. Do you have the service tag number on the back of the computer?

dai -That Everest is a great little app- thank you. It says the M/B is Dell Demension XPS. One strange thing - in storage it lists my main working drive as IDE not SATA? And it lists my printer as a disk drive???

Dai - I went to dell doenload site and sought the raid ide driver. All they had where 2 application accelerators that i downloaded and installed. I suspect those are not the same as drivers... Anyhow, nothing happened. At least I did not seem to break anything!
